Job Description Part-Time Laboratory Manager, Chemistry and
Chemical Biology Job Description Working under the supervision of
the Department Chair of Chemistry and Chemical Biology (CCB), the
Laboratory Manager will be required to work passionately and
collaboratively with CCB faculty, staff, and graduate students to
manage the teaching and research laboratories within the CCB
department. - Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage and be responsible, as an essential worker, for CCB
departmental activities related to day-to-day operations of all
research and teaching labs.
- Insure timely delivery, distribution, and return of gas
containers used by the teaching and research lab facilities.
- Provide rapid assistance in the operations of all the teaching
lab facilities/
- Ensure smooth operation of shared research instruments in the
core and shared research facilities such as flow cytometer, cell
sorter, confocal and fluorescent microscopes, plate readers, NMR,
mass spectrometers, protein/DNA visualization equipment, etc.
- Conduct maintenance operations required for the proper
functioning of the research instruments in the core and shared
research facilities.
- Work closely with faculty and graduate students to organize,
ensure, and document instrument-specific training. -
- Coordinate shared instrument use.
- Ensure all CCB research and teaching labs are in compliance to
all required safety regulations working with Stevens's EHS
department. Qualifications Required Education: - Bachelor's degree
in a science discipline Preferred Education: Master's degree
Required Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience in a
lab-based setting. Preferred Experience: A minimum of 7 years of
experience Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to work as a team member and contribute to the
community-building efforts within CCB
- Empathy to work with and help the CCB faculty and
students.
- A listener, and a master communicator
- Knowledgeable in the operation of science lab equipment
- Knowledgeable in lab safety, test methods, and measurement
accuracy
- Excellent hands-on skills and responsibilities to maintain
modern biomedical research instruments such as confocal microscopy
and flow cytometry
- Ability to meaningfully troubleshoot problems with laboratory
equipment
- Comprehensive knowledge and proven ability to apply a wide
range of concepts techniques, and practices to carry out broad
laboratory objectives
- Impeccable organizational and strong collaborative skills, can
multitask, and help manage shared biomedical research
facilities
- Ability to read and interpret schematics and
specifications
- Capable of creating technical/procedural documentation
- Proven ability to evaluate and produce reliable results,
problem-solve and troubleshoot complex problems
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office suite, specifically
Excel and PowerPoint.
- Outstanding organizational skills
- Outstanding time management skills with on-time delivery of the
responses.
- Outstanding communication skills, with the ability to interact
