About Us:The Hoboken University Medical Center Family Medicine - Psychiatry fellowship is a 12-month non- ACGME accredited clinical education program for primary care/family medicine/internal medicine board eligible physicians who seek to advance their training in Psychiatry and Mental Health.Trainees will learn how to conduct psychiatric interviews, perform evidence based psychiatric risk assessments, diagnose and treat common psychiatric conditions, and perform brief psychotherapy in the context of family medicine in an urban setting. Fellows will serve as consultants and preceptors to their colleagues and residents.What You'll Be Doing:The Fellowship training includes rotations on the inpatient and outpatient primary care and behavioral health units as well as the psychiatric emergency room unit. The inpatient units include child, adult, and geropsychiatry. The outpatient rotations include training in our substance abuse facility and Neighborhood Health Center. The Fellow will also serve as the behavioral health consultation liaison.
The weekly didactic experience consists of teaching sessions, lectures, journal reviews, clinical case reviews, supervision with mentors, and collaborative self-study. Fellows will provide a monthly teaching session to Primary Care/Family Medicine Residents and students.
The curriculum Module include 52 weeks of training

  • Inpatient Adult Psychiatry 8 weeks
  • Inpatient Geriatric Psychiatry 8 weeks
  • Outpatient Addiction psychiatry 8 weeks
  • Child Psychiatry 8weeks
  • Didactics
    During the above rotations the fellows are expected to attend one day a week Primary care outpatient clinic and one day a week Behavioral health outpatient clinic. During the second half of the rotation Fellows will be expected to carry a small patient load to develop skills in independent management of those patients.
